Getting Around Cardiff
Cardiff as a city is relatively compact, with the majority of the attractions, shops, restaurants and bars all within a few minutes of each other. Making it easy to get around by foot! In fact you could go the whole weekend with using any public transport – but here at Maximise we think this is pretty unlikely, especially after a hectic night painting the town red!! So here’s the low down on all the best ways to travel around Cardiff on your hen weekend… Okay so it’s not a limo, but you do have your own personal driver… Cardiff’s bus service, is quick, reliable and cheap, the routes in Cardiff are extensive and run every few minutes. You’ll never be too far from a taxi rank on your hen do… The taxis are all on a meter, and because Cardiff is a small city, taxi fares are very reasonably priced. If you looking for a different way to travel on your hen weekend then hop on board one of the pedal taxis and be transported around the city by some poor bloke on a push bike! Travelling around Cardiff by car is pretty straightforward, bus as with any city congestion can occur at peak times. Parking although plentiful can be expensive…

Cardiff Nightlife
The capital of Wales’, nightlife has expanded in recent years to accommodate the growing influx of party goers arriving daily to have a good time in this vibrant Welsh city. It is regularly voted one of the best drinking destinations in the UK. St Mary Street alone has over 40 pubs and bars in and around it! St Mary Street is situated on the Westside of the city where you will find every type of bar imaginable with some great deals to be had. Another area in the west end that has some cracking nightlife is Mill Lane, which has a cosmopolitan feel to it. The newest addition is the Brewery quarter development, which practically does what it says on the tin! The east end is the second most popular nightlife area in Cardiff and has seen lots of new bars pop up in recent years. The best areas in the east end include Greyfriars Road and The Friary. The Millennium Stadium is at its busiest when the rugby or football is on… with people flocking to the area to bag the best drinking and viewing spots. Getting To Cardiff
By Air – Cardiff international airport serves Cardiff and the rest of south, mid and west Wales. It is situated approximately 19km outside the city centre. A taxi from the airport to your centrally located accommodation will cost around £25 per car, alternatively both trains and buses run from the airport into the heart of the city.
By Train – From Paddington Station in London to Cardiff takes just 2 hours by train making it a great alternative to driving… plus it means no one will draw the short straw when deciding who the designated driver is – Happy days! Train prices can be a bargain, especially if you’re travelling at off peak times! Other destinations, in easy reach of Cardiff by train are Bristol (50mins), Birmingham (2 hours), Liverpool (3.5 hours), Manchester (3 hours) and Southampton (2.5 hours).
By Car – The major motorway route into Cardiff is the M4, passing across the Severn Bridge. The toll on this bridge is around £5.40 and only cash is accepted so raid those piggy banks girls! If coming from the south west of England head north on the M5 before joining the M4 and continuing on to Cardiff. If you are coming from the North or the Midlands head for the M50 at junction 8 take the exit on to the M5 then on to the A40 until Monmouth, Take the exit, on to the A449 until Coldra where you will join the M4 to continue onto Cardiff! Travel time from London to Cardiff takes approximately 3 hours…

Cardiff has been named the 6th best shopping destination in the UK and is home to designer brands, high street names and independent boutiques! You’ll be so spoilt for choice here! There is so much to go in this
section that it’s hard to know where to start! Here goes… Cardiff boasts an array of unique arcades with stunning Edwardian and Victorian architecture! They house an assortment or quirky, independently run boutiques! St David’s is a brand spanking new shopping centre in the heart of the city. It boasts some of the biggest names in the high street and has the largest John Lewis store outside of London. The Capitol shopping centre is located at the bottom of Queens Street and is shopping heaven! The Queens arcade runs parallel to the busiest shopping street in Cardiff, Queens street, and houses over 35 stores with everything from home furnishings to high end fashion brands! Queens street is a pedestrianised road and is the hub of Cardiff’s shopping… You will find all the biggest high street names and all those shopping essentials here! For high-end fashion visit the Hayes, again it is pedestrianised but unlike Queens Street you could spend some serious money here! All the boutiques are housed in breathtaking Edwardian buildings making it a very unique shopping experience… if you want more of a relaxed shopping trip, head over to Mermaid Quay where you’ll find some gorgeous little boutiques nestled between delicatessens and cafes. Things To Do And See In Cardiff
Welsh International climbing centre – Boast the biggest indoor climbing walls in Europe! It also features an extensive caving system, a fitness suite, bunkhouse accommodation and a sauna and steam room!
Techniquest – Is a science discovery centre – hold the yawns! This is different… It has interactive exhibitions and live demonstrations so it’s not like the usual stuffy science museums!
Millennium Centre – Is a internationally renowned arts centre housing musicals, opera, ballet and dance as well as cafes' and art organisations…
Cardiff Festival – Every August Cardiff hosts this fantastic festival that celebrates all things welsh! – They’re very proud of their heritage! Winter Wonderland - Running between November to January! The city Hall lawn is transform into a picturesque open air ice rink, so if you're fortunate enough to be on your hen weekend while this is avaible make sure you pay it a visit! It has a great carnival atmosphere and includes a large ferris wheel, candy floss stalls, mulled wine and many great food choices...
Castall Coch - Translated as the 'red castle' this breathtaking fairytale style building was built on the remains of a medieval castle in the 19th century! The surrounding views are stunning and it is a must see while in Cardiff on your hen weekend
