Belgium’s second party city – and Brussels’ wilder, little brother – Antwerp might not be the first place you think of for a stag weekend in Europe, but with a chilled out vibe, a huge nightlife scene, plenty of stag do activities and more Belgian beer than a stag party could ever hope to drink in one weekend – it should be! During the day try out some wicked stag do activities like Total Wipeout, MMA fighting or the ever popular beer bike. When the sun goes down head out with a guided bar crawl and really get to know Antwerp, in particular the great strip clubs and nightclubs scattered around the city!

Climate in Antwerp

Antwerp weather is much like you’ll find in England, although obviously with better summers. You’ll find mild winters and won’t see snow too often on the Christmas markets that line the streets in the winter months. Autumn and spring you’ll find rain as well as plenty of sunny days, and you’ll find t-shirt weather summers without all the annoying sweating for the most part.

Getting around Antwerp

Antwerp is blessed with a small and compact city centre, meaning around a fifth of it is pedestrianised and being one of the safest cities in Europe, whatever the time of night you’ll be alright walking around on foot. Much like Amsterdam, the most popular means of transport for the locals is bikes, but if you’re feeling a little worse for wear you can always get from A to B using the tram system spread out across the city. As for stumbling back to your hotel in the morning, the cabs here are well priced and don’t have a reputation for ripping tourists off, so you’ll be safe hailing one down to help you get back to your bed when you’re a little worse for wear.

Nightlife in Antwerp

Only really recently has Antwerp become a tourist hot spot – and we’ve no doubt in the years to come it'll continue, but the locals have been partying there for years – and believe us, they know how to party. As with much of Europe, you’ll find a lot of the bars are cafes during the day that morph into bars or clubs in the evening. In pretty much any bar you’ll find the Belgium beer that undoubtedly drew you to the city in the first place. And while you might think as a smaller city, you might miss out on something a capital could offer you – you’d be wrong… there’s plenty of wild strip clubs to stop off in for your stag night and to finish up your evening, the clubs are something else – a 16th century church converted into a wild club in the middle of Antwerp’s red light district? Yeah, something tells us you’re gonna have a good night.

Belgium has two very distinct cuisines – posh French nosh and meat heavy Flemish food, with Antwerp in particular as a port city being full of fantastic fresh seafood and fish not to be missed on your stag do. As one of the trendiest cities in Europe, there’s no shortage of swanky restaurants, hipster pop ups and street food stalls – so whatever your budget you’ll find something in the city to your liking.

Things to see in Antwerp

See a hand, eat a hand: No, we’re not condoning cannibalism… you’ll see hands all over Antwerp as part of its namesake and to do with the myth of Brabo who cut the hand from a giant who was terrorising Antwerp. One of Antwerp’s famous foods is hand shaped biscuits or ‘Antwerpse handjes’ – the ideal way to non-illegally get your Hannibal Lecter on.
Snort Chocolate: We all know Belgium is famed for its chocolate, but we only know of one place in Antwerp where you can snort it, at The Chocolate Line! This boutique store sells chocolate powder snorting kits… which is weird but when in Rome. Bonus, win brownie points with the missus by bringing her some chocolate back.
Diamond Pavilion: As the unofficial diamond capital of the world, you may as well go see the jewels the city is famed for – you might even grab a bargain while you’re there.
