Getting around Budapest

Budapest has an extensive and efficient public transport system including trams, buses and metro trains in the city. Be prepared for typical rush hours where roads are crowded and traffic can be rather slow, although no less than you would find in any other capital. To avoid this, it's a good idea to make use of the metro system. It's easy to use, consisting of only four lines and a cheaper alternative to taxis and can get you where you want to go on time. If you fancy staying above ground both the trams and buses run regularly throughout the day. Night buses replaced the trams in the evening and run from 11pm until 4am meaning you can stay out as late as you want. As in all cities you're only visiting, avoid getting into taxis without agreeing a price with the driver first. If you can, use one of the bigger taxi companies like 6x6 Taxi, Budataxi or Fotaxi.

The nightlife in Budapest is very diverse. You have everything available from a standard local pub to the hottest clubs, with plenty in between! Budapest's nightlife boasts a number of large, fashionable clubs which attract big-name DJs from around the world. Once summer comes around, there is rarely any need to go indoors to party. The variety of outdoor nightlife in and around the Budapest city centre is unparalleled. Several derelict courtyards have been converted into popular inner city beer gardens and the banks of the Danube are home to a number of open-air clubs. A cheeky beer in the late afternoon sunshine often turns into a full-blown carnival before you know it, making it a vibrant and eclectic city for your stag weekend celebrations!

Budapest has a wide selection of top notch restaurants. Many serve traditional Hungarian food but there is also many Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants so you have an extensive range of restaurants to enjoy on your stag weekend in Budapest. There are more than 1,000 restaurants within Budapest city limits and they range from exclusive fine dining to fast food burger bars and pizza takeaways. Hungarian cuisine is not the most slimming in the world, but it is definitely worth a try. Paprika is the dominant flavour of Hungary, which has a cuisine like no other place in Europe. Chicken, beef, veal, pork and game are flavoured with paprika in famous dishes such as goulash, which contrary to popular belief is a soup rather than a stew.

I actually called another company first that offered the same service. However, the women I spoke to spent more time telling me what I should do and not listening to me that I did some further research and quickly found Maximise instead. I spoke to Joe and he was much more helpful than the previous person at the other company. He actually listened to me and made some helpful recommendations. Having returned from Budapest, I can say on behalf of the whole group, it was one of the best weekends we have been on and certainly one of the best stag's! The people looking after us, went over and above to help us have a good time, whether that be with additional recommendations, helping to mediate with establishments when we got too rowdy and being a great fly-on-the-wall photographer! Our itinerary included: a bar crawl, night clubs, boat tour up the Danube, a banquet meal (which was awesome) and plenty of strippers. On reflection, I would of perhaps thrown in another activity whether that be shooting or going to the baths for example but on the weekend itself it didn't matter. I would certainly recommend Maximise to anyone who is organising a stag or hen do. They made my job as the best man so much easier, they went over and above to make sure we had a great time and they were much better to deal with than their main competitor (not mentioning names...)! Thanks Maximise!

Cracking weekend made possible by Louise at Maximise and Anna in Budapest. Great value for money and well run. THe bar crawl and Ruin Bars were highlight and Anna new best places to go so we didn't waste time going to wrong bars. Shooting was superb - cant fault the weekend and yes I would definitely recommend Maximise and Budapest!!
