Climate in Hamburg

If you look at Hamburg on a map, you’ll see that the city’s just as northern as Leeds, so don’t expect anything too tropical! The temperature and weather is pretty much the same as the UK, although the Germans are lucky enough to be blessed with noticeable seasons. In summer, Hamburg reaches average highs of 23C, but has shivering winter lows of 2C. So if you’re looking for a winter break, maybe pick up a stag fleece rather than a stag t-shirt!

Getting around Hamburg

Although we supply all of our stags with transport to activities as well as return airport transfers to their accommodation, sometimes you’ll want a little time to explore yourself. With two airports, a huge port and great road networks, getting into Hamburg is a doddle, and it seems the classic German efficiency applies to their public transport systems as well. Buses run around the clock, with the nightbus running throughout the city centre, useful when it's a bit too far to stumble home. As well as the buses, you can hop on the underground (u-bahn) or overground trains which run to all the main sectors of Hamburg, as well as the outlying districts. Best thing is, they run all night on a weekend! The city uses a proof of payment system, where officials will make spot checks on your tickets. Apart from that, you and the lads can hop on or off at any point without having to deal with turnstiles or barriers! But we’re not saying ‘wing it without a ticket,' the officials know what they’re doing and they make a habit of catching people out.

What you need to know about nightlife in Hamburg

Nightlife in Hamburg

Nightlife in Hamburg

Hamburg's nightlife was the beginnings of Germany's reputation for a collosal night out... which began with the Reeperbahn, otherwise known as the sinful mile, Germany's answer to the Red Light District. You'll find a huge array of entertainment of the adult variety here, though it's not all strip clubs and peep shows, there's also a thriving nightlife scene here with plenty of bars, pubs and clubs to hit on your crawl. John Lennon was famously quoted as "I might have been born in Liverpool - but I grew up in Hamburg", so you know you're in for some truly legendary nights out. Just down the road from the Reeperbahn is Sternchanze, which is known to the locals as the bar-hopping district and where you'll find everyone warming up. The bars and pubs along the Elbe river are a favourite in summer months, as they're also home to some very convincing beaches.

Eating in Hamburg

There are far too many amazing restaurants in Hamburg to mention! From cheap and cheerful, to budget-breakers, Hamburg has them all. Due to its German heritage, bratwurst and pretzels are pretty easy to come by (and great after a skinful). However, if you want to go a bit native, Hamburg is known for their seafood, with various types of fish, crab, herring, lobster, and eel being on the menu. As the city has a giant port on the Elbe, worldwide luxury foods and spices aren’t too hard to find either!

Things to see in Hamburg

Elbe Beach: We mentioned it earlier but seriously, hit the beach. Decked out with tiki huts, bonfires, swanky beach bars and plenty of gorgeous women. Don't miss out.
Reeperbahn: We know we've mentioned it already, but we can't really rate it enough. Not only is it the place to be at night, but it's also a great place to go during the day with amazing street food and plenty of places to grab a beer in the sunshine.
Planetarium: If your stag is a bit of a nerd, you'll want to hit up one of Europe's most stunning planetariums, and also one of the oldest. It's one of the most visited in the world and definitely not one to miss if your stag fancies himself as a would-be astronaut.

Maximise were brilliant from point of enquiry until the weekend was finished. Did exactly as the itinerary stated and we were looked after at every stage. Zoey in particular was always at the end of the phone or emails answering the smallest of queries. The online centre is a great tool and very easy to use for payments/itineraries etc. We were a group of 19 of mixed ages, hotel was ok (you get what you pay for which is to be expected), go karting was great and the guides were prompt, knowledgeable and helpful. Everything went to plan with maximise, would definitely recommend or use again in future if I needed to.

Second time I have been away with Maximise and again everything was brilliant. Carter was great helping me plan the weekend and Maximise team in Hamburg were a great help especially on the bar crawl on the first night. Hamburg is definitely a good choice for a stag do and Maximise are a very good choice to organise it.

Just Returned from Hamburg, trip was brilliant, would totally recommend the city. The Go karting was excellent and our guide was superb. Zoey at Maximise helped throughout the booking process and in particular when we had issues with guys cancelling. For ease when booking you should definitely use Maximise.
