King of the North, Hamburg is an epic destination for a stag do abroad. The 6th biggest city in Europe and one of beer-loving Germany's greatest cities, Hamburg's got some tricks up its sleeve for your stag do including the legendary Reeperbahn, awesome beer halls, plenty of Bavarian beauties, legendary Booze Cruises and more.

A thriving business city during the week, Hamburg works hard and plays even harder on the weekend. The city is packed full of bars and pubs for you to discover on your stag do, but we suspect you'll find yourselves at St Pauli's Reeperbahn for most of your weekend. It's Europe's largest red light district but it's not all peep shows and strip clubs, it's also conveniently home to some of the best bars and clubs Hamburg has to offer.

Should you escape the Reeperbahn or before you party the night away, there's a whole host of incredible Hamburg stag do activities on the menu including river cruises, brewery tours and traditional beer hall crawls for that authentic German stag night. Our favourite thing to do is some sightseeing complete with unlimited alcohol on a private booze cruise down the Elbe River.

Climate in Hamburg

If you look at Hamburg on a map, you’ll see the city’s just as northern as Leeds, so don’t expect anything too tropical on your stag do! The temperature and weather is pretty much the same as the UK, although the Germans are lucky enough to be blessed with noticeable seasons.

In summer, Hamburg reaches average highs of 23C but has shivering winter lows of 2C. So if you’re looking for a winter break, maybe pick up a fleece rather than a stag t-shirt!

Getting around Hamburg

With two airports, a huge port and great road networks, getting into Hamburg is trouble-free, and it seems the classic German efficiency applies to their public transport systems as well.

Buses run around the clock and night buses run throughout the city, which is very useful when it's a bit too far to stumble back to your accommodation after a big stag night. As well as the buses, you can hop on the underground (u-bahn) or overground trains, which run to all the main sectors of Hamburg, as well as the outlying districts. Best thing is, they run all night on a weekend!

The city uses a proof of payment system, where officials will make spot checks on your tickets. Apart from that, you and the lads can hop on or off at any point without having to deal with turnstiles or barriers!

Nightlife in Hamburg

Hamburg's nightlife is the birthplace of Germany's reputation for a colossal night out. It all began with Reeperbahn. otherwise known as the sinful mile, is Germany's answer to the Red Light District and perfect for stag dos.

There's no doubt you'll find a huge array of entertainment of the adult variety in Hamburg. Although it's not all strip clubs and peep shows, there's also a thriving nightlife scene here with plenty of bars, pubs and clubs to hit on your crawl as well. John Lennon was famously quoted as "I might have been born in Liverpool - but I grew up in Hamburg", so you know you're in for some truly legendary stag nights.

Just down the road from the Reeperbahn is Sternchanze, which is known to the locals as the bar-hopping district and where you'll find everyone warming up. The bars and pubs along the Elbe river are a favourite in summer months as they're also home to some very convincing beaches if you fancy a spot of beach bar hopping on your stag do.

Eating in Hamburg

There are far too many amazing restaurants in Hamburg to mention. From cheap and cheerful, to budget-breakers, Hamburg has them all and they are all stag do friendly. Due to its German heritage, bratwurst and pretzels are pretty easy to come by and we strongly recommend after a heavy stag night.

However, if you want to go a bit native for your stag do, Hamburg is known for their seafood and there are various types of fish, crab, herring, lobster, and eel on the menu. As the city has a giant port on the Elbe worldwide luxury foods and spices aren’t too hard to find either. Regardless of your appetite, Hamburg is ready to serve it up to your stag party.

Elbe Beach: We mentioned it earlier but seriously, hit the beach. Decked out with tiki huts, bonfires, swanky beach bars and plenty of gorgeous women. Don't miss out on a spot of lazing about on this beautiful beach n your stag do.

Reeperbahn: We know we've mentioned it already, but we can't really rate it enough. Not only is it the place to be on your stag night, but it's also a great place to go during the day with amazing street food and plenty of places to grab a beer in the sunshine.

Planetarium: If your stag is a bit of a nerd, you'll want to hit up one of Europe's most stunning planetariums and also one of the oldest. It's one of the most visited in the world and definitely not one to miss if your stag fancies himself as a would-be astronaut.

Maximise were brilliant from point of enquiry until the weekend was finished. Did exactly as the itinerary stated and we were looked after at every stage. Zoey in particular was always at the end of the phone or emails answering the smallest of queries. The online centre is a great tool and very easy to use for payments/itineraries etc. We were a group of 19 of mixed ages, hotel was ok (you get what you pay for which is to be expected), go karting was great and the guides were prompt, knowledgeable and helpful. Everything went to plan with maximise, would definitely recommend or use again in future if I needed to.

Just Returned from Hamburg, trip was brilliant, would totally recommend the city. The Go karting was excellent and our guide was superb. Zoey at Maximise helped throughout the booking process and in particular when we had issues with guys cancelling. For ease when booking you should definitely use Maximise.
